ABOUT US
The National Alliance for Hispanic Health (the Alliance) is the nation’s foremost source of information on Hispanic health and a science-based and community driven advocate for health.
In partnership with the Merck Foundation and the Healthy Americas Foundation, the Alliance established the Alliance/Merck Ciencia (Science) Hispanic Scholars Program dedicated to supporting a new generation of Hispanic scientists. Providing scholarships, research experiences, and mentoring, this initiative is expanding Hispanic student access to higher education and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Launched in 2008, the program has provided 50 Alliance/Merck Ciencia Scholar awards to Hispanic high school students who attended a high school in Brownsville, TX; Elizabeth, NJ; and Los Angeles, CA, and demonstrated promise for STEM study. The program has also awarded 125 Ciencia National Scholarships to help Hispanic STEM major college students nationwide complete their education. |
